LYNCHBURG, Va. – The High Point University men's and women's track and field teams spent three days at the 5
th Annual Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted at Liberty University.
In the women's running events,
Quiana Williams qualified for the 60m dash finals and placed sixth overall with a 7.58 time. She also competed in the 200m event and placed sixth with a time of 24.95.
Lindsay Cooper joined Williams in the 200m race and placed 11th overall with a 25.24 time. Cooper later competed in the 400m and clocked a 58.40 time for 14th place.
Brianna Malone crushed the women's 1000m race and broke the HPU program and Big South record after recording a 2:47.82 time for finish in first place overall. She did stop there and later placed first in the 3000m race with a 9:37.28 time. Three other Panthers placed in the top 15 in the 3000m including
Alyssa Hendrix (9:50.92),
Charli Montalvo (9:51.58) and
Anna Ritter (10:06.58).
In the women's hurdles, three Panthers advanced to the 60m hurdle finals. Cooper placed second with an 8.71 time,
Gianna Paul crossed .02 of a second behind Cooper for third place with a 8.73 time while
Ebba Ahman finished seventh with an 8.93 time.
Moving on to the field events, two Panthers placed in the top 10 in the women's high jump.
Sydney Koker cleared 1.64m for fourth place while
Ashari Pearson placed eighth after clearing 1.59m. In the long jump, Paul had the best jump for HPU and landed a 5.62m jump for ninth place.
In the women's pole vault,
Sydney Horn and
Emily Romano took first and second place respectively clearing 4.37m and 4.02m.
In the men's running events, two Panthers qualified for the 60m dash finals and placed sixth and seventh.
Marquis Belle recorded a time of 6.99 seconds and
Keshon Sapp recorded a time of 7.00 seconds. In the men's 200m race
Tim Brown placed seventh with a time of 21.81 seconds while
Myles Darroch crossed shortly after in 10th place with a time of 21.92 seconds.
Brown went on to run the 400m race in 47.61 seconds, a new personal best and program record, breaking his previous record from the week before. Three other Panthers placed in the top 10 in the 400m event, including Belle (2nd, 47.69s),
Kelly Bell (4th, 48.23s), and
Aidan Britt (7th, 48.62s).
In the men's 1 mile Jake Fiorillo recorded a time of 4:17.62 for 5
th place.
Three Panthers qualified for the 60m hurdle finals.
Antonio Votour placed second with a time of 8.25 seconds,
Mauricio Galindo Vega placed fifth with a time of 8.47 seconds, and
Cole Wilson placed seventh with a time of 8.58 seconds.
In the men's high jump,
Andrew Taylor and
Shaun Thomas placed second and third each clearing 2.06m.
John Connors cleared 1.96m for sixth place.
For the third meet in a row,
Ricardo Montes de Oca took first place in the men's pole vault with a 5.24m bar.
Reid Holloway placed second with a 5.14m bar,
Jackson Tuomey placed third clearing 5.04m and
Maxwell Robinson placed fourth with a 4.89m bar.
Justin Sluijter broke the men's long jump record after jumping 7.54m. Wilson finished fourth after jumping 7.15m. In the men's triple jump,
Mobu Nwakor had the best jump for HPU and placed fourth overall jumping 14.45m.
In the men's throwing events,
Alex Hoffman had strong performances in the shot put and weight throws. He placed third in the shot put throwing 15.73mand fifth in the weight throw after launching the weight 16.13m.
A couple of Panthers competed in the heptathlon. The top finisher for HPU was Felix LeBlanc who recorded 4,851 points for fifth place followed by
Evan Mills in sixth with 4,818 points and
William Reeves in seventh place with 4,752 points.
