GREENSBORO, N.C. / DURHAM, N.C. – The High Point University men's track and field team competed at two meets over the weekend. The Panthers first traveled to the Aggie Classic at NC A&T on Friday before going to the Duke Twilight at Duke University on Sunday.
At the Aggie Classic, the pole vault squad was the only group to compete for HPU.
Ricardo Montes de Oca won the event after clearing 5.39m, followed by three other Panthers over 5.00m.
Grant Gogel and
Jackson Tuomey placed third with a 5.19m clear, while
Maxwell Robinson recorded a 5.04m bar.
At the Duke Twilight,
Dominiq Northington kicked off the events on the track with a ninth place finish in the 110m hurdles after recording a 14.48 time. In the 400m
Tim Brown clocked a 47.29 time for 12th place overall in a competitive field. Allon Suggs Sweeney represented HPU in the 400m hurdles and registered a season best time, 53.34 for ninth place.
In the 200m,
Myles Darroch posted a new personal best, clocking a 21.62 time to finish in 14th place. Moving on to the 800m, two Panthers placed in the top 10 as
Camerin Williams placed sixth with a 1:47.87 time and
AJ Miller placed 10th with a 1:48.75 time.
In the late session of the meet, multiple Panthers posted new personal bests in the distance events.
Gavin Stevens raced in the 1500m and recorded a new personal best, 3:48.36 time.
Alex Contreras competed in the 3000m steeplechase and registered a new personal best, 9:16.75 time for 18th place. Closing out the night,
Avery Crowell raced in the 5000m and clocked a 14:06.20 time for 13th place.
In the field events,
Bradley Weiner started off the morning in the hammer throw and placed ninth with a 54.25m throw. He also threw in the discus and placed in the top 20 along with his teammate
Caleb Barley. Weiner threw 44.91m and Barley threw 48.05m.
In the javelin,
Drew Noblet had a solid day and placed third overall with a 67.52m throw.
Demetrio Lukaitis also competed in the javelin and threw 52.94m.
In the jumps,
Shaun Thomas placed third in the high jump with a 2.06m bar. In the long jump
Cole Wilson also had a third place finish after jumping 6.98m in the sand. In the triple jump,
Mobu Nwakor jumped 14.74m for sixth place.
Tuomey and Gogel competed in the pole vault again along with
Jason Olivera Jr.. Tuomey and Olivera Jr. cleared 5.00m for second place. Gogel placed seventh with a 5.00m clear as well.

High Point will travel to the Liberty Twilight for a mid-week meet on May 6 in Lynchburg, Va. for the last meet before the Big South Outdoor Championships.
