HPU Strength & Conditioning

ABOUT HPU STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

The High Point University Strength & Conditioning staff is comprised of individuals who have served a wide variety of collegiate student-athletes. The Strength & Conditioning staff has developed the ability to adapt and provide training programs that will prepare student-athletes for the demands of their sport. 

Training programs are developed to improve energy system development, power and force output, mobility and flexibility, and general wellness.  As a staff, the Strength & Conditioning Coaches will utilize their education and practical experiences to foster a safe and effective environment for all student-athletes. 

Each member of the HPU Strength & Conditioning staff possess a list of certifications that have been earned to demonstrate their educational background. 

 

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the High Point University Strength & Conditioning Department is to provide student-athletes with purposeful and strategic preparation for the demands of gameplay utilizing sound, data-driven, and practical training principles.

FACILITIES

The High Point University Strength & Conditioning program has four weight rooms for student-athletes to use. The weight rooms are housed in the Qubein Center, Steele Center, Millis Center, and College Village on the HPU campus. Between all four weight rooms, student-athletes have access to racks, free weights, machines, posterior chain developers, assault bikes, versa climbers, ellipticals, treadmills, EliteForm, and timing gates. 

STEELE CENTER

Steele is outfitted with 10 Hammer Strength racks equipped with Sorinex multi-purpose bars, Safety squat bars, and Sorinex trap bars. It is also home to a variety of machines including GHRs, Pit shark, leg press, lat pulldown, hip machine, and Kboxes. It has a 10x20 yd turf space that houses these machines as well as plyo boxes, hurdles, and Medballs. Steele is equipped with various sports science tech including Hawkin force plates which can be used to monitor readiness and track progress in specific KPIs that correlate to on-field performance. The racks can also be outfitted with OVR Velocity sensors which can be used to autoregulate training and ensure that specific qualities are being trained. 

Steele primarily houses training for Track and Field, Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's Lacrosse, Baseball, and Men's and Women's Golf.

Qubein Center

The Qubein Center holds 4 Sorinex 1 ½ racks equipped with Eleiko Performance barbells. In addition to plyo boxes and medballs, there are various machines including lat pulldown, cable row, 4-way hip machine, Frankenhypers, Coremaxx, Super Cat, and Accelerated Isokinetic machine. Cardio equipment includes Versa Climbers and assault bikes, while sports science technology includes OVR Velocity sensors to diversify and track training outputs. 

Qubein primarily houses Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams.

Millis Center

Millis holds five Hammer Strength racks, as well as three cable machines with attachments to perform lat pulldowns and rows with various grips. Additional machines and equipment include two GHRs, five stationary bikes, dumbbells up to 90 lbs, kettlebells up to 100 lbs, DC blocks, plyo boxes and med balls. Millis teams have access to sports science technology such as OVR Velocity sensors and Just Jump Mats to drive training outputs and adaptations.

Millis primarily houses Volleyball and Track & Field teams.

College Village

College Village contains 8 Sorinex double-sided racks equipped with Eleiko Performance and Power barbells, Texas power bars, and Sorinex trap bars. Each rack includes a set of Power Block adjustable dumbbells, Kettlebells ranging from 8-32 kg, variable-grip pull-up handles, and gymnastic wood rings. Additional equipment includes Safety squat bars, 15 kg Eleiko barbells, Sorinex multi-grip bars, plyo boxes, medicine balls, and dumbbells up to 100 lbs. College Village is also home to a 7x32 yd turf space, Pit Shark machine, Kboxes, and three reverse hyper machines, as well as sport science equipment such as OVR Velocity sensors, Hawkin force plates and Just Jump mats to help monitor training outputs and readiness. 

College Village primarily houses Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Rowing and Track & Field teams.

Fuel Zone

 

All three facilities are equipped with a “Fuel Zone” to aid in the student-athlete recovery process. Students are advised to eat a post workout snack after each training session to help muscle recovery.
