HENGELO, Netherlands – High Point University Men's Track & Field long jump star Justin Sluijter competed at the 2026 Outdoor Dutch National Championships this past weekend at the FBK Stadium in Hengelo, Netherlands. Sluijter was crowned the Dutch National Champion in the men's long jump, winning his first national title.
 
 
Sluijter took home gold after launching 7.48m in the sand.
 
"After a tough year with a lot of hamstring issues, I finally got my first National Title," Sluijter mentioned in an Instagram post. "And what a year it has been."
 
This past season Sluijter was crowned the Big South Indoor Long Jump Champion (Feb.27-28) after setting a Big South record, championship meet record and an HPU program record with a mark of 7.89m. His 7.89m mark earned him a spot at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships (Mar. 13-14) for the first time in his career where he was named a Second Team All-American.
 
After suffering a hamstring injury at the end of the indoor season, Sluijter worked to recover through the first few weeks of the outdoor season. He competed at his first meet back at the Big South Outdoor Championships (May 11-13) and won the men's long jump with a 7.48m jump. He qualified for the NCAA East First Rounds (May 27-30) and jumped 7.17m.
 
 
"Thank you to all who have been involved in this journey this year," Sluijter added. "I will be back and better next year, we are not even close to the goal."
