High Point Concludes Two-Meet Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. / GREENSBORO, N.C. – It was a jammed packed weekend for the High Point University men's track and field team as the Panthers competed across two meets. The Wake Forest Invitational started on Thursday, April 16 and went through Friday, April 17 while the Aggie Invitational started Friday, April 17 and ran through Saturday, April 18. Various athletes split across the Wake Forest and Aggie Invitational.
 
Wake Forest Invitational
Kicking things off on Thursday at the Wake Forest Invitational, the throwers hit the field in the hammer throw. Bradley Weiner had a strong outing finishing third with a 53.08m throw. Prince Brockington rounded out the top 10 with an eighth-place finish after throwing 51.34m.
 
In the evening on the track, High Point had multiple athletes compete in the 800m invite starting with AJ Miller who clocked a 1:49.44 time to place third in his heat. Camerin Williams raced in his first meet of the outdoor season in the last heat of the 800m invite and recorded a 1:47.66 time, posting his third time in his career under 1:48.00 (1:47.37 is his own program and Big South record which was set at the 2025 Big South Championships). His 1:47.66 time on Thursday will put him in the running to qualify and return for the NCAA East First Rounds.
 
Luke Simpson ran in the first heat of the 3000m steeplechase and in his third steeplechase of his career he posted a new personal best, 9:17.02 time to place fourth in his heat.
 
Avery Crowell and Gavin Stevens raced in the 5000m. Crowell had a solid race recording a new personal best 14:20.98 time for second place overall, finishing ahead of two Kentucky runners by 2-3 seconds. Stevens finished 16th with a 14:49.93 time.

On Friday, Clark Lalomia was the first race on the track for the Panthers in the 1500m open recording a new personal best 3:50.61 time. Ethan Stallone competed in the 110m hurdles and recorded a 14.58 time and later competed in the 400m hurdles with a 57.08 time. Allon Suggs Sweeney raced alongside Stallone in the 400m hurdles and placed second with a season-best 53.58 time.

Next in the 400m, Myles Darroch turned on the speed and registered a season-best, 47.63 time for second place. Dominiq Northington came out the blocks of the 100m dash and clocked a 10.56 season-best time for third place overall to round out the events on the track.

In the field events on Friday, Caleb Barley represented High Point well in the discus and shot put events. In the discus he placed fifth overall with a new personal best 50.50m throw and in the shot put he placed third with a 17.17m throw. Weiner also placed in the top 10 in the discus with a 45.36m throw.

In the high jump, two Panthers placed in the top five as Shaun Thomas cleared a season-best 2.11m for third place and John Connors registered a career-best 2.06m for fourth place.

Aggie Invitational
On Friday at the Aggie Invitational HPU had a fleet of seven athletes compete in the pole vault including Jake Morgan, Maxwell Robinson, Jackson Tuomey, Reid Holloway, Grant Gogel, Jason Olivera, Jr. and Ricardo Montes de Oca. In HPU fashion the Panthers went 1-5 on the podium, led by Montes de Oca with a 5.52m clear. Olivera, Jr. cleared 5.32m followed by Gogel and Holloway with 5.22m clear.

On the track Saturday at the Aggie Invitational, Lalomia and Greg Abel placed within the top 10 in the 800m as Lalomia clocked a 1:54.38 time and Abel recorded a new personal best 1:54.60. Williams also raced on Saturday this time in the 400m, registering a new personal best 47.06 time for seventh place. Jake Fiorillo competed in the 3000m steeplechase and placed fourth with a 10:40.57 time.

Rounding out the last event on the track, HPU raced in the 4x400m relay race. The group consisting of Williams, Tim Brown, Darroch, and Miller clocked a season-best 3:08.47 time for fifth place.
