High Point Set to Play William & Mary in NCAA Tournament

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's basketball team is going dancing for the second time in program history after earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Panther have been selected as the No. 16 seed and will play in a play-in game against No. 16 seed William & Mary on Thursday, March 20 in Austin, Texas at the Moody Center.


 
"It's been a long week waiting to find out what our destiny is," Head Coach Chelsea Banbury stated. "I'm just so excited to finally have an opponent to focus on, where we're going to travel, and when we're going to be playing, I'm excited. This is March, we live for these moments. I love that we're here and I can't wait to get started."

High Point is coming off its second Big South Championship in program history as well as claiming the Big South Regular Season Title. Banbury led the Panthers to a 21-11 regular season record, and a 13-3 record in the Big South. HPU rides a nine-game winning streak after its championship win against the Longwood Lancers, 59-53, in Johnson City, Tenn.
 
This will be the eighth matchup between the Panthers and the Tribe, dating back to the first matchup in 1988 and most recent in 2014. The Tribe is coming off a 2024-25 season where they finished with a 15-18 overall record, and an 8-10 record in CAA play. William & Mary won its conference after defeating No. 3 seeded Campbell University, 66-63, on Sunday afternoon.
