CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — High Point University's Fred Roberts IV finished the NCAA Regional in Chapel Hill following a third-round score of 72 Wednesday afternoon at the Finley Golf Club.
HPU Men's Golf Head Coach Todd Eckstein: "Even though he didn't have his best stuff, Fred should be incredibly proud of what he did to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Having our program represented at the highest level of college golf is a privilege earned, and I cannot wait for the day we take our first full team to an NCAA regional."
Roberts became the third Panther in program history to attend the NCAA Regional as an indiviual. He is preceded by Brandon Einstein (2021) and Brendan MacDougall (2018).
The tournament was a tough battle for the graduate student as the participants faced tough competition, difficult weather conditions, and several weather delays throughout the three-day event. Roberts carded 78 in the first round before facing tough conditions in round two to score 81. The graduate student improved quite a bit in the third round as the weather finally eased up. Roberts carded three birdies throughout the round, helping him score 72 and finish 68th with a 231 total.
