HIGH POINT, N.C. — During the spring semester, High Point University women's soccer junior
Carly Smith was published in the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to conduct research alongside Dr. Vaughan and develop an onset of beneficial skills to forward me into grad school," Smith said. "It was very rewarding to see our hard work be published in a scholarly journal."
Smith began the research in summer of 2022 with Dr. Roger A. Vaughan, who is a High Point University Associate Professor in the Exercise Science Department. Through this research, Smith and her classmates were able to publish not only one but two scholarly journals and be listed as first authors.
The most recent publication was on January 16, 2024, which can be viewed

The three-year letter winner has saw success in the classroom and on the field. Smith, a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., has played in 46 games with 23 starts while registering an assist. She returns for her senior season in fall of 2024 as a key piece on defense, with a goal of going to pursue physical therapy in graduate school following her collegiate career.
"We are incredibly proud of what Carly has achieved in the classroom and on the field," HPU Head Coach
Aaron McGuiness said. "This accomplishment highlights her dedication to her studies and just shows what can be achieved as a student-athlete here at High Point University."
