Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "It's been a long time coming, and it feels good to finally convert on our opportunities. The girls did a really good job of executing the plan and sticking with it for the full 90 minutes. Even through our substitutions, they all executed the plan. It was nice to see and I'm super happy for them to get a win on the board and to keep rolling from here.
High Point opened the scoring in the 30th minute when
Joellie Giquinto sent one flying into an empty net to notch her first-career goal. This set the Panthers up to head into halftime with a lead and full momentum.
Playing with a one goal lead in the 63rd minute, quickly turned into a 3-0 lead when
Bella Burr and
Morgan Wilcox both put balls on net and scored. Burr tallied her first-career goal after
Kasey Resker booted one into the box, finding
Courtney Andruczk's foot as it fell into Burr's lap and she was able to put it home.
Just a minute later, Wilcox sent a beautiful header to the back of the net off
Alex Murphy's corner kick. Wilcox scored her second of the season to extend High Point's lead over the Blue Hose.
HPU put up a season-high 20 shots, while
Aubrey McKessy recorded a clean-slate with two saves.
