HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team matched up with Longwood University on Wednesday night falling, 1-0, to the Lancers at Vert Stadium.
Site: Vert Stadium
Score: High Point 0, Longwood 1
Records: High Point (0-8-2, 0-2-0), Longwood (5-5-2, 2-1-0)
An early goal from Longwood in the 16th minute was how the Lancers opened tonight's match. High Point had a response with a few shots of its own by
Bella Burr,
Sabba Haghgoo, and
Thea Oberhoff that couldn't find the net.
High Point's defense kept the Panthers in the match till halftime before they went back to work in the second half. Playing from behind, HPU was looking for any chance to breakthrough and find the equalizer.
As the match was winding down, a few late corner kicks had the looks of an equalizer when
Joellie Giquinto fired one off the crossbar and was rebounded by
Morgan Wilcox. Wilcox got her head on it but the Longwood keeper made the diving save to put a stop to that.
Alex Murphy with just a minute left lofted a corner kick that just sailed over the net in hopes of an Olimpico goal. The Lancers would hold on to the 1-0 win on Wednesday night.
Up Next: High Point will head to Charleston Southern University on Saturday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m.
