CHARLESTON, S.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team played to a, 1-1, draw against Charleston Southern University on Saturday afternoon.
Site: CSU Soccer Field
Score: High Point 1, Charleston Southern 1
Records: High Point (0-8-3, 0-2-1), Charleston Southern (3-4-4, 2-1-1)
Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "I thought we played well today. We played more aggressive with more forward thinking, but it was just unfortunate to not come away with a few more goals and a win."
High Point was looking for the opening goal from the start with a few early shots. Just a few minutes after
Morgan Wilcox ripped a shot on goal,
Kasey Resker scored her first career goal to give HPU the 1-0 advantage in the 34th minute.
The Buccaneers had an answer right away scoring the equalizer in the 40th minute scored by Cadance Bell. A late shot from
Peyton Gilmore that went wide took both teams to halftime tied at one.
Kari Powell and
Bella Burr started the second half for High Point with early shots to apply pressure on the Bucs'. The Panthers continued to try and break that tie as they kept firing shots away. Charleston was doing the same as they tallied five shots to HPU's eight in the second half.
Neither team let one slip past the keepers for the remainder of the match as the Panthers and Buccaneers played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.
Up Next: High Point will host Presbyterian College on October 11 at 4:00 p.m. for alumni weekend.
