SAPPHIRE, N.C. — High Point University men's golf had an impressive first round at the JT Poston Invitational, shooting the third-lowest round in program history en route to a seventh-place, 1-under finish Tuesday afternoon.

HPU Head Coach Todd Eckstein: "I am very proud of the guys for getting us in a position to win with about six holes left today. Gregor and Jay both had great tournaments individually to help get us there. Our team hasn't been in that position in a while, and I am confident that we will draw on this experience when we have another chance to win later this season."

Panther Placement:

T20, Jay Smith (-2)
T39, Miller Carr (+3)
T54, Grady Newton (+5)

Miller Carr, another HPU freshman, landed the third-best score for High Point. Carr scored a total of 216, landing him a T39 finish. His best round was the second, where he scored a 2-under par.
