HPU Wraps Regular Season at Diesel’s Last Chance Meet

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University track and field teams had select members compete at the last chance meet held at Vert Stadium in an attempt to qualify more individuals for the upcoming First Round NCAA Championships. Lindsay Cooper led the Panthers as the lone individual to improve her mark in the mix for the East region standings.


 
Starting off the day with field events, Amanda Scattergood threw a lifetime best in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 45.98m. Alex Hoffman also finished second in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 55.98m. In the men's pole vault field, Jackson Tuomey was one bar from being in the current top-48, finishing with a clearance of 4.98m. Reid Holloway and Nick Lourenco each cleared 4.83m and Adam Craig finished the day with a mark at 4.68m. In other vertical jumps action, Sydney Koker also just missed the bar at 1.74m which could have put her in position to qualify for the First Round. Koker finished with a mark at 1.65m.
 
In horizontal jumps, Alicia Dawson jumped for 5.77m in the women's long jump while Larry Coaxum posted a mark of 14.61m in the men's triple jump. Back down at the throwing area, Letizia Marsico finished third in the women's discus with a mark of 45.24m while Scattergood was right behind at 42.51m.
 
In running events, Olive Allen led of the day in the 1,500m finishing with a time of 4:29.22 before Dae'Nitra Hester ran the 400m in 55.47 seconds. In the women's 400m hurdles, Cooper posted her season-best time of 58.66 seconds which currently sits 44th in the East. Ebba Ahman also finished with a time of 1:01.72.
 
Coming off his conference championship in the 3,000m steeplechase, Jake Tarosky ran again in an attempt to improve his time, but finished a few seconds off a personal best at 9:12.41. In the final event of the day, Nikki Frail and Mikayla Moxley competed for a spot in Jacksonville running the 800m. Frail finished with a time of 2:10.53 while Moxley closed it out in 2:12.58.
 
Up Next: Several HPU athletes will look to the First Round of the NCAA Championships in Jacksonville, Florida, set for May 24th-27th. Qualifiers (top-48) for the First Round will be confirmed tomorrow evening (May 15) at 5:00 p.m.
