Women's Track & Field Kadie Snipes

High Point Completes Weekend at Raleigh & Davidson Relays

RALEIGH, N.C./ DAVIDSON, N.C. – The High Point University women's track and field team traveled an hour east to N.C. State University for the Raleigh Relays which took place over the course of three days from March 26-28. The Panthers also competed at the Davidson Relays on Saturday March 28.
 
Doing what she does best, Ashlyn Giles opened the weekend up for the women on Thursday in the shot put. Giles won the event with a program and Big South record mark of 16.56m just one week after setting both records herself.
 
Giles continued in the throwing events, kicking off the day for the Panthers on Friday in the discus. She placed sixth with a 50.45m throw on her second launch.
 
On the track Friday, Gianna Paul represented HPU well in the 100m hurdles clocking a 13.82 time for fifth place. In the 100m dash, Zamesha Myle and Kaia Putman both placed in the top 20 as Myle recorded an 11.73 time and crossed with an 11.78 time.
 
Closing out Friday night just before midnight, Charlie Montalvo and Danielle Jensen raced in the 10,000m in the pouring rain. Both finished in the top 40 in a competitive field.
 
On Saturday, High Point finished out the meet at the Raleigh Relays. Putman competed in the 200m and recorded a 24.16 time for 11th place.  
 
At the Davidson Relays, HPU had a large group of athletes compete on Saturday. In the hammer throw, Jill Stroup threw a persona best, 52.11m to place second overall. Also in the throwing events Vanessa Kobialka placed fourth in the discus after throwing 43.61m on her fourth throw and later placed ninth in the shot put with a 12.07m mark.
 
Moriah Evan won the javelin with a 43.10m followed by Addison Freeland in second place with a 38.77m throw.

High Point dominated in the pole vault with Emily Romano winning the event with a 4.00m clear. Lily Houston placed third after clearing 3.85m.
 
On the track Mya Hines and Jhanelle Thomas both competed in multiple events. Hines started the day 100m hurdles with a fifth-place finish clocking a 14.77 time. She later placed seventh in the 400m race and recorded a 58.21 time. Thomas placed ninth in the 100m hurdles and registered a 15.19 time and placed third in the 400m hurdles with a 1:03.68. Layla Jones also raced in the 100m hurdles and registered a 15.21 time for 10th place.
