Women's Hoops to Host Campbell in Qubein Arena

For the first time in 2022, the High Point women's basketball team will host a game in Qubein Arena. The Panthers are set to tip off against Campbell at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. After picking up an 83-73 win at USC Upstate on Wednesday, the Panthers are 4-9 overall and 1-1 in Big South play.

Guilford County Mask Mandate
Due to Guilford County's reinstated mask mandate, starting Saturday (Jan 15) all fans attending High Point University basketball games inside the Qubein Center are required to wear a mask except when eating and drinking. A mask will be required to enter the Qubein Center moving forward this season for all home HPU basketball games. The University will follow mandates as we have since the pandemic began, and we appreciate your cooperation with the county mandate in indoor settings on campus.
 
Across the Bench
Campbell is 9-3 on the season and 3-0 in Big South contests. The Camels' three losses have been to Norfolk, No. 25 Virginia Tech, and East Carolina.
 
Faith Price and Taya Bolden each average over 12 points per game to lead Campbell offensively. Bolden also leads the league with 9.5 rebounds per game. Luana Serranho has tallied a Big South second-best 58 assists and 18 steals as well.
 
Head coach Ronny Fisher is in his sixth season at Campbell, posting 96 wins in his first five years with the Camels.
 
Last Time vs. Campbell
The Panthers punched their ticket to the 2021 NCAA Tournament on March 14th when they took down Campbell in the Big South Tournament, 62-46. HPU shot 40 percent from the floor and 41 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Jenson Edwards led HPU with 19 points and pulled down six rebounds while Callie Scheier chipped in nine points, going 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
 
Panthers vs. Camels
High Point is 22-11 all-time against Campbell since their first meeting in November of 2002. The Panthers have taken the last three matchups over the Camels, all in 2021, and five of the last seven contests. In the last seven games against Campbell, HPU has been designated as the home team five times.
 
H3U Returns
After starting off the season shooting 27.7 percent from behind the three-point line, HPU hit 17 triples against USC Upstate. Six players recorded at least one made three-pointer as the Panthers finished the night shooting 43 percent from the arc. After Wednesday night's performance, HPU's season three-point percentage jumped nearly two points to 29.5 percent.

Callie Scheier recorded a Division I career-best performance at USC Upstate, scoring 23 points with five three-pointers and going 8-for-8 behind the charity stripe.
 
Her two fast break triples in the first quarter gave HPU their first lead over the Spartans. Scheier also tallied two assists and swiped two steals in the victory in 35 minutes of play.
 
Doubled Up on Double-Doubles
Jenson Edwards and Jaden Wrightsell each posted double-doubles against King. Edwards led HPU in scoring with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Wrightsell posted 12 rebounds and 15 points. It was the first time two Panthers posted double-doubles in the same game since Feb. 20, 2016.
 
Edwards posted her second double-double of the season (sixth in career) against Gardner-Webb with a balanced 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Dishing It Out
Jordan Edwards has served a team-high 32 assists this season. She ranks tied for 8th in the Big South for assists per game (2.7 apg). Last season, Edwards tallied 142 assists on the season, good for fifth in HPU's single-season records.
 
Hitting the Boards
Jenson Edwards leads HPU in defensive rebounds so far this season. Edwards has pulled down 72 defensive rebounds (5.3 rpg) this season. She pulled down 10 rebounds against King and Gardner-Webb to finish with double-doubles in each game. Edwards ranks fourth in the Big South in defensive rebounds per game.
 
Two-Time Freshman of the Week
Nakyah Terrell was named the Big South Freshman of the Week for the second time this season on November 29th after posting a double-double against Wake Forest. Terrell led all players is scoring (21 points) and rebounding (11 rebounds) in the contest.
 
Terrell Posts First Double-Double
Freshman Nakyah Terrell recorded her first career double-double against Wake Forest on Nov. 24th. She led the team with 21 points and 11 rebounds while also nabbing one steal and one assist.
 
Record Book Watch
Redshirt junior Jenson Edwards finished in the top-five all-time for season field goal percentage in 2020-21. Edwards was 141-279 (.505) from the floor. Edwards was also ninth for free throws made and percentage in a season. She was third in percentage (.882) and ninth in free throws made (90). Jenson's .418 three-point percentage line last season was fourth all-time for HPU as well.
 
Jordan Edwards finished tied for fifth for assists in a season (142) and third in assists per game (5.1). Edwards has dished out 37 assists and nabbed 17 steals through the first 13 games of the season.
 
Banbury is Back
Head coach Chelsea Banbury is entering her third season at the helm. She was named the fifth Division I head coach of High Point University's women's basketball team in June 2019. Banbury has a 38-20 record at High Point through her first two seasons.
 
 
Panthers Enter as Preseason No. 1
High Point was selected as the preseason No. 1 in the Big South while Skyler Curran and Jenson Edwards both earned Big South Preseason honors. Curran was named Big South Preseason Player of the Year after leading the team in scoring last season (17.7 points/game) while Edwards earned Big South Preseason Second Team recognition. Edwards also garnered the Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year Award after she posted the fifth-highest scoring average in the Big South with a total of 14.6 points per game.
