The High Point University women's basketball travels to Lynchburg, Virginia, on Saturday to meet the Liberty Flames in non-conference basketball action. The Panthers are currently 2-4 on the season and seeking their first win since a 109-38 victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian on November 14th.
ACROSS THE BENCH
The Flames are 5-1 in the 2021-22 season. Liberty's only loss was to James Madison on November 18th in a 66-61 overtime thriller.
Liberty is led offensively by redshirt-junior center Mya Berkman, averaging 14.7 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. Alyssa Iverson and Kennedi Williams have each recorded over 20 assists on the season and Bridgette Rettstatt is not far behind with 18 assists on the season.
Dee Brown leads a balanced defense with eight steals on the year while Bella Smuda has tallied six blocks this season. Williams has also nabbed six steals.
As a team, the Flames are shooting 43.2% from the floor and 29.1% from behind the three-point arc. Liberty is 54-of-81 (66.7%) from the charity stripe as well.

Wrightsell Storms on the Scene
Forward
Jaden Wrightsell started her first game in over two weeks after missing the last two games. Against Wofford, she scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. She also tallied a block and three steals on the defensive end.
Wrightsell leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds per game.
Two-Time Freshman of the Week
Nakyah Terrell was named the Big South Freshman of the Week for the second time this season on November 29th after posting a double-double against Wake Forest. Terrell led all players is scoring (21 points) and rebounding (11 rebounds) in the contest.

Nakyah Terrell recorded her first career double-double against Wake Forest on Nov. 24th. She led the team with 21 points and 11 rebounds while also recording one steal and one assist.

As a team the Panthers finished 21st in NCAA Division I three-point percentage last season, shooting 36.5% from three-point range.

Redshirt junior
Jenson Edwards finished in the top-five all-time for season field goal percentage in 2020-21. Edwards was 141-279 (.505) from the floor. Edwards was also ninth for free throws made and percentage in a season. She was third in percentage (.882) and ninth in free throws made (90). Jenson's .418 three-point percentage line last season was fourth all-time for HPU as well.
Jordan Edwards finished tied for fifth for assists in a season (142) and third in assists per game (5.1). Edwards has dished out 20 assists and nabbed nine steals through the first six games of the season.
Banbury is Back
Head coach
Chelsea Banbury is entering her third season at the helm. She was named the fifth Division I head coach of High Point University's women's basketball team in June 2019. Banbury has a 38-20 record at High Point through her first two seasons.
Panthers Enter as Preseason No. 1
High Point was selected as the preseason No. 1 in the Big South while
Skyler Curran and
Jenson Edwards both earned Big South Preseason honors. Curran was named Big South Preseason Player of the Year after leading the team in scoring last season (17.7 points/game) while Edwards earned Big South Preseason Second Team recognition. Edwards also garnered the Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year Award after she posted the fifth-highest scoring average in the Big South with a total of 14.6 points per game.
