Geis and Heinst Named to Big South Indoor Track and Field All Decade Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --The Big South Conference announced the Big South Women's Indoor Track and Field presented by Hercules Tires Tuesday afternoon (June 9). Zoe Geis and Famke Heinst were the High Point athletes selected to the All-Decade Team. Geis and Heinst were teammates in 2017, 2018, and both were members of the 2019 team that won the first Big South indoor track and field championship in program history. 
 
Zoe Geis | Center Valley, Pa. | 2016-2019 
Geis started her collegiate indoor career with a 1st place finish in the DMR at Virginia Tech Invitational with a time of 12:52.52. In her freshman season, she placed 3rd at the Big South Championships with a season-best in the 3000m clocking in at 10:17.66. In her Sophomore season, she earned All-Big South honors in both the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters at the Big South Championships. As a Junior at the conference meet, she won a Big South Championship title in the 5000m as she finished with a time of 17:53.90. In her senior season, she set a new school record in the 500m with a time of 16:47.94 at the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt. It is the third-fastest indoor 5000m time in Big South history. Geis won two Big South Championship at the 2020 Conference meet in the 5,000 meters and 3,000 meters. She also finished third in the mile to make for podium finishes in every event she competed in at the Big South Championship. For her outstanding performance at the 2020 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championship, she was named the 2019-2020 Big South Most Valuable Athlete.
 
Famke Heinst | Gelderland, Netherlands | 2017-2019
Heinst started her indoor collegiate career with a first-place finish in the 3000 at the ETSU Track and Field 2018 invitational in her first collegiate indoor event. She went on to finish first in six out of the eight events she participated in as a freshman. Heinst won two Big South titles at the conference meet as she finished first in the mile and the 3000. She set a personal best in the 3000 with a time of 9:45.85. As a sophomore, she finished first in three out of the four events she participated in. At the conference meet in 2019 she repeated as champion in the Mile and the 3000, she was selected as the Big South's Most Outstanding Track Performer. She picked up two more first-place finishes in 2020, she also set a new personal best in the mile finishing with a time of 4.51.94 at the Hokie Invitational. 
 
Women's Indoor Track & Field All-Decade Team candidates were determined based on being at least one of the following: 1) Was a multi-year All-Conference honoree in one or more event; 2) Was named an All-American; 3) Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame; 4) Student-athletes must be a college graduate or in good academic standing with their respective institution; 5) Won a Conference Championship as a coach and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year.  Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions.  Member institutions also had final determination in regards to inclusion of student-athletes and coaches.  Previous Women's Indoor Track & Field All-Decade Teams were recognized for the years 1997-99 and 2000-09.

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
