CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Big South Conference announced the Big South Women's Soccer All-Decade team presented by Hercules Tires on Wednesday afternoon (June 3).
Kelsey Perrell,
Becca Rolfe, and
Janay Whittaker were the High Point players selected to the All-Decade Team. Whittaker and Perrell were teammates in 2012, Perrell and Rolfe were teammates in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Kelsey Perrell | King, N.C. | 2012-2016
Perrell was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team after her first year of play in 2013. She finished her freshman year with seven goals, three assists, and 17 points. She was named to the Big South Second Team All-Conference after starting and playing in every game for the 2014 season as HPU went on to win the Big South Championship. In 2015 Perrell earned First Team All-Big South Team honors. She was the captain of a defense that set a new Big South single-season record with a 0.46 goals-against average. Her play in the Big South tournament earned her a selection to the 2015 Big South All-Tournament Team. In 2016 she led the team in points with 21 on the season, nine goals, and three assists. She received All-Big South first-team honors. She was named the Big South Attacking Player of the year in 2016.
Becca Rolfe | Nashville, Tenn.| 2014-2017
Rolfe is a two-time Big South Champion, winning team titles as a freshman in 2014 and as a senior in 2017. In 2014 she was named to the All-Big South Second Team while also being selected to the Big South All-Freshman Team. In 2015 she earned All-First Team Big South honors. In 2016 Rolfe was named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while also earning First Team All-Big South honors and was selected to the Big South All-Tournament team. In her senior year in 2017, she started in 21 out of 22 games. Rolfe earned All-Big South first team and All-Academic honors. She was selected to the Senior CLASS Award Second Team a prestigious honor for student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. She also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team honors.
Janay Whittaker | Stone Mountain, GA | 2009-2012
Whittaker is a two-time Big South Champion, she was a member of the 2009 and 2010 team that both won team titles. 2009 and 2010 is the only time High Point Women's soccer has won two Big South tournament championships in a row. Her freshman year she received Second Team All-Big South honors, she was also named to the Big South All-Freshman Team. She led HPU with three goals and six points. In 2010 she earned First Team All-Big South honors, she was named the Big South Tournament MVP as the Panther repeated as champions for the second straight year. In 2011 she once again earned First Team All-Big South honors and in 2012 she was named to Big South All-Academic team while she had nine points on three goals and three assists.
Women's Soccer All-Decade Team candidates were determined based on being at least one of the following: 1) Was a multiple All-Conference honoree; 2) Was named an All-American; 3) Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame; 4) Student-athletes must be a college graduate or in good academic standing with their respective institution; 5) Won a Conference Championship as a coach and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year. Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions, and were listed under their primary position during their careers. Member institutions also had final determination in regards to inclusion of student-athletes and coaches. Previous Women's Soccer All-Decade Teams were recognized for the years 1993-99 and 2000-09.
A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
