The High Point University women's basketball team (2-6) returns to the Triad to face UNCG (7-4) Saturday afternoon (Dec. 21) at 4 p.m. It's the final non-conference game of the season for the Panthers, with Big South action starting up after Christmas on Dec. 28.
 
Matchup History
  • This is the 32nd all-time meeting between the schools, with UNCG holding a slight edge, 16-15.
  • Each team does better at home, with HPU holding a 7-5 record at the Millis Center while going just 5-9 on the road in Greensboro.
  • High Point has won the last two against the Spartans and owns the longest winning streak in the series, taking five straight in the 1970s and '80s.
 
Panther Notes
  • HPU fell on the road to Butler last time out (Dec. 15), 74-52.
  • Senior Camryn Brown led the team in scoring for the second straight game, scoring 19 against the Bulldogs while playing in her 100th game for the Purple and White.
  • Sophomore Skyler Curran had her best game of the season as a facilitator against Butler, dishing out a season-high four assists in the game.
  • Freshman Amaria McNear and redshirt sophomore Danielle Deoul each had career-highs in rebounds last Sunday, with McNear collecting a team-high seven boards and Deoul grabbing five in a career-high 12 minutes of action.
  • Another Panther played a career-high number of minutes against Butler as junior Chyna McMichel logged 29 minutes of action in her hometown of Indianapolis in front of family and friends at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
  • High Point had a player return to action against the Bulldogs when redshirt freshman Jenson Edwards took the floor for the first time since leaving with an injury in the first minute on Nov. 10 against the College of Charleston.

Across the Bench
  • UNCG enters the game with a 7-4 record on the year and most recently defeated the College of Charleston, 69-56 on the road Monday evening (Dec. 16).
  • The Spartans have played two other Big South schools so far this season, beating UNC Asheville and losing to Campbell.
  • Reigning SoCon Player of the Week Nadine Soliman leads UNCG in scoring and rebounding, averaging 19.1 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game.
  • Also in averaging double-digit figures in scoring are Te'ja Twitty and Aja Boyd, with averages of 12.1 and 11.7 PPG, respectively.
  • Boyd is right behind Soliman in rebounding, bringing down an average of 7.1 RPG.
  • UNCG shoots the ball extremely well, coming into the game with a 45.7% shooting percentage, 26th in the country.
 
Up Next: High Point's road swing continues into the start of conference play with the 2019-20 Big South opener coming for the Panthers on Dec. 28 at Campbell. HPU then travels to Winthrop on New Year's Eve before finally returning home to host USC Upstate on Jan. 4 to open play in a new decade.
