HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's basketball team makes the short trek to Fleming Gymnasium to take on UNCG at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Panthers and the Spartans enter the contest with matching 1-2 records after both teams fell on Wednesday. HPU's setback came at the hands of No. 8 Maryland while UNCG dropped a game against Francis Marion.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Purple & White went on the road to take on the Terrapins on Wednesday night and fell 105-50 in the XFinity Center. Junior Kaylah Keys came out hot scoring seven points in the first quarter at Maryland en route to a 12-point performance. Meanwhile, Kat Harris had her best game in the Purple & White scoring 10 points to go along with 5 rebounds and five assists.

PANTHER NOTES:
• The team continues to rely heavily on first-year players as freshmen have played 63 percent of the team's minutes through three games.

• With two newcomers in the starting lineup, the crop of freshmen also is scoring 50 percent of the points and grabbing 48 percent of the rebounds.

• Junior Kaylah Keys is the second-highest active scorer in the Big South Conference behind Liberty's Ashley Rininger.

• Keys is ninth on HPU's Division I scoring list with 1,053 points in just two-plus seasons. She is five points behind Misty Brockman (1999-03) for seventh on HPU's Division I scoring list. The Southaven, Miss. native is five 3-pointers behind Lindsay Puckett for second on the program's all-time 3-pointers made list.

• Senior Aariel Allen continues to show improvement with more minutes (8 points and 4 rebounds in 19 minutes at UMD). The forward is averaging 7.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game after tallying 1.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest in 2014-15.

SCOUTING UNCG:
• Led by preseason All-SoCon selection Lucy Mason, UNCG was picked to finish sixth in a the eight-team league after placing eighth last season.

• Like the Panthers, UNCG opened the season with a win over a Division III opponent before taking a loss against top-10 opponent in No. 2 South Carolina (92-44). The Spartans followed the defeat to the Gamecocks with a 66-63 setback to Francis Marion, a Division II squad.

• Mason, a 5-foot-7-inch senior guard, has led the team in scoring in all three contests tallying at least 20 points in each game.

• Junior India Tempton is pacing the team with 9.0 rebounds per contest while adding 7.3 points.

• UNCG is the more experienced team that will likely start all upperclassmen as Mason and Tempton will be joined by senior Jazmine Missouri, junior Shanese Harris and junior Mariah Wilson.

• Starting fast could be a key for HPU as the Spartans have been outscored 114-84 in the first half, but have won the 4th quarter 48-38 this year.

ALL-TIME SERIES WITH THE SPARTANS
This is the 27th meeting all-time between UNCG and High Point with the Panthers holding a 14-12 lead in the series.
