High Point Drops Presbyterian, 75-33

Box Score

The High Point University women's basketball team defeated Presbyterian, 75-33 on Saturday afternoon in Millis Athletic Center. HPU improves to 9-10 and 5-1 in Big South play while PC falls to 2-14, 0-5 in the League.

Leading the Panthers was sophomore LaTeisha Dean with 15 points. Dean shot 60-percent from the field while pulling down a team-best seven rebounds and racking up a career-high six steals. Frances Fields added 13 points while Amy Dodd tallied 10.

For the Blue Hose, Amanda Mills had 12 points. Lea Smith added 10 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

The Panthers got off to a slow start as PC took an early 7-4 lead at 16:16 off a jumper from Katlin Moore. But High Point quickly went to work after that, putting full-court press on the ball. The Blue Hose kept the score close, down just four (17-13) with 8:14 left in the period, but that is as close as they would come as High Point closed out the half with an 18-4 run and take a 35-17 lead into the break.

The Panthers defense was a catalyst for the team as they scored 14 points off turnovers in the first half, forcing the Blue Hose to cough up the ball 18 times.

High Point continued its run into the second period. Three pointers from Whitney Tarver and Kirsty Pfahl in the final minutes gave HPU its largest of the game with 3:25 remaining on top by 46 (71-25).

HPU forced 30 PC turnovers while only giving the ball up 16 times. The Panthers stole the ball 22 times  which is the most ever against a Division I opponent.

The Panthers will be back in action on Monday, Jan. 26 when they host UNC Asheville. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Millis Center.
