Box Score Senior Candyce Sellars scored 15 of her 18 points in the second half to lead High Point over Campbell, 70-53 in the consolation game of the FAU Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Leslie Cook added 14 points in the victory. Freshman forward Andrea Tucker had a career high eight rebounds to lead the Panthers (6-6) on the boards while Caitlin Thys pulled down seven.
For the Camels (3-8) Marlena Murphy knocked down 21 points while Lauren Arthur added 11. Murphy also led the team on the boards, pulling down seven.
High Point and Campbell battled in the opening minutes of the game with three lead changes in the opening six minutes. High Point took the lead for good at 14:08 off a jumper from Cook which sparked a 16-7 run for the Panthers and give them a 10 point lead (27-17) at the 5:30 mark. The Camels would battle back to pull within two with 21 seconds remaining in the half, but Ayonna Thompson would hit a three pointer in the final seconds to give the Panthers the five point advantage going into the break.
Coming out of the intermission High Point quickly extended the lead to 17 at the 12:02 mark, going on an 18-6 run capped by a three pointer from Cook. The Panthers controlled the second half and took their largest lead of the game, going up by 23 at 5:11 when Katie Ralls connected for three.
"It was a good team effort," said head coach Tooey Loy. "We had a great response after yesterday's game where we didn't play very well."
High Point held the advantage on the boards, outrebounding Campbell, 47-29.
The Panthers will be back on the court on Tuesday, Jan. 2 when they face Florida State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Tallahassee.
