Junior Leslie Cook dropped in 23 points to lead High Point past Charleston Southern, 82-53.

 

High Point, off to its best league start since joining the Big South, remains undefeated in the conference with a 6-0 record (15-4 overall) while Charleston Southern (5-13, 0-6 Big South) is still winless in Big South play.

 

Joining Cook in double figures was Katie O'Dell with 12 while Raven Truslow added 10. Cook's seven three pointers ties her career high.

 

O'Dell pulled down eight rebounds to lead the team. Her effort also places her 10th on the all-time rebound list at HPU. Cook grabbed seven.

 

The Buccaneers were led by Erica McCoy who dropped in 15 points. Amber James and Shaunte Small each added eight.

 

In the first half the Panthers shot 52-percent (10-of-19) from outside the arc led by Cook who went 6-of-9 during the opening minutes (7-of-10 for the game). Cook knocked down four in the first 10 minutes of the game. High Point took a 38-25 advantage into halftime.

 

Coming out of the break the Panthers got on the board first with a jumper from O'Dell. The Buccaneers pulled within eight during the second period (13:06) before High Point went on a 21 point run over the next six minutes sparked by a lay-up from Amber Manuel.

 

High Point had 11 steals and forced 10 Buccanner turnovers.

 

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they play host to Winthrop to wrap the first half of the Big South Conference season.
