Box Score Katie O'Dell and Leslie Cook dropped 17 points each to lead High Point past Liberty, 64-55 tonight in women's basketball action.
High Point improves to 13-4 overall on the season and 4-0 in the Big South. The Panthers are currently the only undefeated team in conference play. Liberty falls to 11-5 (3-1 Big South).
In addition to O'Dell and Cook, Katie Ralls drained 13 points and Candyce Sellars added 11 to round out the double-figure scoring.
Amber Manuel pulled down eight rebounds to match a career-high.
For the Flames Allyson Fasnacht led the team in scoring with 12 while Courtney Watkins had 10 points.
Liberty got on the board first off a three pointer from Watkins in the opening minute. The Flames jumped out to an early five point lead before the Panthers responded with a three pointer of their own from Sellars. High Point took its first lead of the game (8-5) at 15:04 when Cook drained a three but the Flames would quickly respond with back to back baskets.
The opening period had three lead changes and five ties. High Point took a three point lead (27-24) into halftime.
Coming out of the intermission, the Flames went on a seven-nothing run in the early minutes, before High Point responded with a back-to-back three pointers from Cook and O'Dell.
At the 11:11 mark Sellars hit a lay-up that sparked a 15-0 HPU run that put the Panthers up 13 before the Flames' Karoli Piotrkiewicz made a free throw at 5:41. Liberty went on a short run, but only came as close as five. Ralls sealed the High Point victory going four of four from the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds.
The Flames out-rebounded HPU 54-36, but High Point forced 20 turnovers and had 28 points off turnovers.
HPU will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern. The game against Coastal is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 while the Charleston game is on Monday at 7 p.m.
