Senior Katie O'Dell knocked down 21 points to lead High Point past Campbell, 73-60, Thursday night in the Millis Athletic Center.

 

The Panthers also had juniors Katie Ralls and Leslie Cook hitting double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

 

For the Camels Adrienne Rieley and Marlena Murphy each had a double-double to lead the Camels. Rieley had 16 points and 11 rebounds while Murphy shot 14 points and pulled down 15 boards. Maggie Rich added 15 points of her own.

 

Campbell got on the board first when Rich hit a three pointer in the opening minutes. The Camels led throughout the first half, leading by as many as 10 with 7:17 remaining. High Point would rally though and cut the lead down to two, 28-26, going into the intermission.

 

Coming out of the break, Ralls hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 28 before Caitlin Thys hit a lay-up to give the Panthers their first lead since the 16 minute mark of the first half. Campbell fought back to retake the lead off a lay up and free throw by Murphy, but the Panthers proved to bee too much and High Point took the lead for good at 13.39 off a lay up by Amber Manuel.

 

High Point's largest lead of the game came at the end with 13 when Raven Truslow knocked down a couple of free throws.

 

Campbell out shot High Point from the field 40-percent to 21-percent in the first half, but the Panthers rallied in the second for a 44-34-percent advantage. The Panthers held the free throw advantage throughout the night shooting 81-percent from the charity stripe to Campbell's 65-percent.

 

High Point's defense proved to be a key factor, forcing 29 turnovers and stealing the ball 15 times. HPU had 23 points off of turnovers.

 

The Panthers were out rebounded by the Camels 56-37. Junior Candyce Sellars led High Point with eight rebounds. Sellars also led in the assists category with seven.

 

HPU will return to action on Monday, Jan. 2 when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. to face William and Mary in the first of a pair of Virginia based contests. The second game will be Wednesday, Jan. 4 in Blacksburg, Va. against Virginia Tech. Tip-off for both games is set for 7 p.m.
