Junior Katie Ralls put up a career high 15 points tonight to lead the Panthers past Division II power, Presbyterian, 65-60 in overtime.

 

High Point improves to 7-3 on the season and takes a four game win streak into the holiday break while Presbyterian falls to 9-2.

 

In addition to Ralls, the Panthers had two other players in double figures tonight. Senior Katie O'Dell put up 12 points and sophomore Raven Truslow came off the bench with 10. Junior Erica Brockmyer also had a career high performance with nine points.

 

For the Blue Hose Takach Bridget led the way with 14 points while Marie Marquez added 10.

 

The first half was back and forth throughout with High Point holding the largest lead, up by seven off a three pointer by Leslie Cook at the 14:15 mark. Presbyterian battled back and took the lead at 10:19 when Morgan Johnson hit a lay up. The Lady Blue Hose would stay in control until 4:11 when Truslow hit a three to put the Panthers up by 2 (24-22). Going into the intermission the two teams were knotted at 27.

 

Coming out of the break, Presbyterian jumped out to an early lead going up by as many as seven before the Panthers would respond with a three pointer from O'Dell at 16:25. HPU would again take the lead at 14:22 off a lay up by Truslow.

 

Going into the final minute of the game HPU and PC were tied at 54 before Brockmyer hit a lay up to give High Point the two point advantage. A made free throw shot by Cameron Cook combined with a jumper by Rebecca Wessinger pulled the Lady Blue Hose ahead with 11 seconds remaining. A costly Presbyterian foul with two second remaining sent Cook to the line where she made the first of a pair and sent the game into overtime.

 

High Point dominated the overtime period out-shooting Presbyterian 4-1 from the field. A three pointer from Brockmyer early in the extra minutes gave High Point the lead for good.

 

Presbyterian led in the rebounding category 55-50. Wesley Campbell pulled down 11 for the Lady Blue Hose while Truslow and Amber Manuel each had eight for the Panthers. High Point played a solid defensive game forcing 18 turnovers and had 11 steals.

 

The Panthers are off for the holidays until Dec. 29 when they host Campbell University. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in the Millis Athletic Center.
