Box Score High Point built a seven-point second-half lead over seven-time defending Big South champion Liberty, but the Lady Flames pulled even and then used a 15-2 run to pull away for a 63-50 comeback win over the Panthers Saturday in Lynchburg.
Liberty improves to 15-6, 7-0 in Big South play, while the Panthers saw their three-game win-streak snapped and fall to 10-10 (4-3 in the League).
The win for the Flames was their 31st in a row over Big South foes, and their 18th-straight in the Vines Center against Conference teams dating back to a 58-53 loss to High Point on Feb. 17, 2001.
Charlena Martin led the way for HPU with 13 points, while Katie O'Dell added 10 points. Katie Feenstra paced Liberty with 32 points and 17 rebounds.
High Point used an early 9-2 run to open up a 20-16 lead. Freshman Katie Ralls had four points during the run.
The Panthers closed out the half with an 8-4 run to head into halftime with a 31-27 lead.
Liberty, which ranks 12th in the nation in defensive field goal percentage, held the Panthers to 26.6 percent from the floor. The Lady Flames shot 41.0 percent and won the battle of the boards by a 56-39.
Daina Staugaitiene added nine points and five rebounds, while Aundrea Dawson scored eight points and pulled down seven boards for Liberty.
Martin and O'Dell each tallied six boards for HPU.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 14, at home against Birmingham-Southern. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
