Women's Basketball Falls At Chattanooga, 68-47

Katasha Brown, Tiffani Roberson, and Nicole Mattison all scored in double figures to lead Chattanooga to a 68-47 win over High Point Monday night in women's basketball action at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga.

Charlena Martin led the Panthers with 11 points and shot 5-of-9 from the field, while Katie O'Dell provided 10 points and eight rebounds for HPU.

The host Lady Mocs, who have won the last four Southern Conference titles and were the preseason No. 16 team in the nation according to Street & Smith's, improved to 5-2, while High Point dropped to 2-3.

Brown led all scorers with 16 points for the Lady Mocs. Roberson racked up 14 points and tallied six boards, while Mattison added 12 points.

High Point also got six points apiece from Chan Ingram and Raven Truslow, while Katie Ralls collected seven rebounds. Emily Mills provided seven points and four boards, while Timberley Jones blocked a game-high three shots.

Although the Panthers never led in the game, they kept things tight early on and were within 21-20 at the 9:25 mark of the first half before Chattanooga used a 14-2 run in the final 5:18 to go into the locker room with a 45-26 lead.

Chattanooga maintained a sizable lead throughout the second half, but couldn't string together a big run as it did in the first. The Lady Mocs' largest lead of the game, 25 points, came with 3:44 to play on a three-pointer by Kristen Spann.

HPU will try to get back on track against Division I newcomer Longwood on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm in Farmville, Va.
