Box Score High Point snapped a five-game skid through the efforts of Charlena Martin scoring a game-high 18 points in the win over host Gardner-Webb, 68-56 in non-conference action at the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center in Boiling Springs on Thursday night.
The Panthers improved their record to 5-7 while Gardner-Webb falls to 0-9 for the season.
Gardner-Webb during the first half made a 9-0 charge to take a 27-24 lead with 7:43 remaining. The two squads then alternated leads for the next three minutes as High Point then regained control of the game with a 10-2 run to head into the locker room with a 40-32 advantage.
Kate Jenner (seven points, three rebounds) opened the second half with a jumper to build the lead to 10 with a 42-32 advantage, but Gardner-Webb clawed their way back with a 15-7 push that cut the visitors lead to just two, 49-47.
However, High Point found their long range shot by hitting four of its five second-half three-pointers to keep the Bulldogs at bay. Martin scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half as well as Chan Ingram finishing the game with a season-high 12 points in 25 minutes of work for the victory.
Other Panther notables who scored were Katie O'Dell (nine points, six rebounds), Tonya Tripp (seven points, team-high nine rebounds) and Katie Rall and Erica Brockmyer scored five points apiece.
As a team, the Panthers shots 42-percent from the field and all 10 players scored at least one point in the win.
High Point will be back in action on Monday when Campbell University comes to town for a non-conference showdown. The tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
