Box Score Aida Sarajlija scored a game-high 23 points to help Xavier defeat High Point, 78-40, in the championship game of the Provident Bank Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati on Sunday.
HPU's Emily Mills was named to the All-Tournament team.
After the jump ball to start the game, High Point and Xavier could not score a point until a Musketeer three-pointer by Michelle Miller at the 18:35 mark. The Panthers got on the board three minutes into the game with a Kate Jenner (eight points, six rebounds and two steals) layup with 17:07 on the clock.
At about the 14 minute mark of the first half, Xavier built their lead up to 18 points (9-27) with a 12-0 run while High Point went on a scoring drought for about six minutes. However, the Panthers did fight back to close the lead to 12 after a 7-0 run capped off by Katie O'Dell's three-pointer at the 4:00 minute mark of the first half, but could not climb any closer the rest of the game.
O'Dell and Katie Ralls each scored a team-high 11 points in the loss.
High Point will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host four-time defending Southern Conference-champion Chattanooga in the Millis Center. The start time is 7:00 pm.
