High Point Sweeps Elon, 77-64

Box Score

High Point jumped out to a 17-point halftime advantage and weathered a furious Elon rally midway through the second half to dispatch the Phoenix, 77-64, and complete a season sweep of its cross-Triad archrival.

In a matchup of the two best home teams in the Big South, it was the road team that emerged victorious. Elon (15-12, 10-4) lost for the first time this season in the Koury Center. Narelle Henry led the Panthers (13-14, 7-7 Big South) with 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half.

With the win, the Panthers clinched the fourth seed in next week's Big South Conference Tournament in Roanoke, Va. High Point will face Charleston Southern  at 2:00 pm on Wednesday in the Roanoke Civic Center.

The Panthers led by as many as 19 points in the first half, and used a 13-2 run to build their 41-24 halftime lead. But Elon hung tough, chipped away and got within four points when Courtney Nyborg hit a pair of free throws to cut High Point's advantage to 53-49 with 8:07 to play.

But Misty Brockman came back with a driving layup in traffic and Henry nailed a huge trey on the next trip down to push the lead back to nine points at 58-49, effectively providing the boost HPU needed to hold off the Phoenix.

Brockman, Cebronica Scott, and Toni Vick each had 13 points for High Point, while Mariam McLeod led Elon with a career-high 24 points.
