Narelle Henry and Katie O'Dell led a balanced High Point attack with 11 points apiece as the Panthers got their first win of the season with a 65-40 victory over Gardner-Webb Tuesday night at the Millis Center.
The Panthers (1-1) held Gardner-Webb to 25 percent shooting, and were in control the entire game.
High Point's defense hampered the Bulldogs (0-2), who were unable to generate any offensive rhythm and finished the game with 29 turnovers. A layup by Stephanie Scott with 12:58 left in the first half gave the Panthers an 8-7 lead which they wouldn't relinquish.
HPU took a 33-21 lead to the locker room after closing the half with a 12-3 run.
The Panthers made their first 12 free throws, and 12-of-14 overall from the line. O'Dell, a freshman, went 6-for-6 from the stripe en route to her career-high of 11 points.
Freshman Keauna Vinson led HPU with nine rebounds, while Emily Mills, Gina Rosser, and Cebronica Scott collected six apiece.
The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Casey Collins and Brooke Anderson (seven points each) and got nine rebounds from Amanda Boles.
Gardner-Webb travels to Birmingham-Southern Saturday night, while High Point hosts Longwood tomorrow afternoon (1:00 pm) at the Millis Center.
