Coach Crawley Announces Staff Additions of Luke Shilling and Jeb Brenfleck

HIGH POINT, N.C. - John Crawley, Head Coach of the High Point University men's lacrosse program announced two new additions to the coaching staff for the 2027 season – Luke Shilling and Jeb Brenfleck. Shilling will join the staff as an assistant coach and Brenfleck will serve as the Director of Lacrosse Operations.

Shilling comes to High Point after working at UMBC for the past two seasons. While at UMBC, the Retrievers posted a 7-5 record in 2025 and a 6-7 record in 2026 with trips to the America East postseason play.

"I'm pumped to have Luke join us down here at High Point," Coach Crawley stated. "He's a young man who played the game at a very high level in his time at Johns Hopkins and Towson, and has now coached at a very high level at UMBC. But, more importantly, after getting to know him the last few years - he's a great person, who will do everything he can for this program and our players. He's been around the game his whole life, and I'm pumped to watch the impact he'll make on our offense this year."

"I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to join the High Point family," Schilling stated. "Coach Crawley has built a program that I've always had a lot of respect for, and I'm excited to learn from him and the rest of the staff every day. I'm looking forward to building strong relationships with our players, helping them grow on and off the field, and doing whatever I can to help this program continue to compete at a high level. I can't wait to get to work."

Shilling grew up in Towson and graduated from Boys' Latin in 2017, where he served as a team captain. He was a four-year letterman at Johns Hopkins and finished his collegiate career at Towson in 2022, playing for his father Andy who is an assistant coach for the Tigers.

Shilling appeared in 40 games for the Blue Jays as a reserve attackman and extra-man specialist. He scored seven career goals for the Jays, adding six assists. Six of his seven goals were on the power play. He graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2021 with a degree in Political Science

Shilling was a starting attackman for the Tigers in 2022, scoring a career-high 21 goals to go along with 19 assists. He led the squad to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship game and was selected to the All-Tournament Team. In addition, he was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week on March 7 after back-to-back hat tricks at Loyola Maryland and UMBC.

In 2024, Shilling coached for the Crabs Lacrosse Team and the Boys' Latin varsity squad.

Brenfleck, the 2025 High Point graduate, returns to HPU as the Director of Lacrosse Operations for the 2027 season. During his collegiate career, he completed his undergraduate degree at Penn State where he played four years of lacrosse. He transferred to HPU for his final season of his collegiate career and earned his master's degree.

"Jeb being back in town is going to be awesome for everyone wearing purple," Coach Crawley commented. "He made an awesome impact on our team and program his grad year for us in 2025, and I know he'll continue making impacts like that. He was extremely passionate about studying and learning the game as a player, and I know his passion will serve him well as a coach. The Brenfleck family has had a huge impact on this program, and to have him continue that impact to our locker room is a true blessing!"

In 2025, Brenfleck appeared in 10 games, posting 11 goals and two assists. He scored a season-high three goals against Saint Joseph's with the game winner to upset the Hawks. Contributing to his stats he picked up seven ground balls. He helped guide the Panthers to the A-10 Championship game, finishing as the Tournament Runner-up.

"I couldn't be more excited to return to High Point University and join a program that means so much to me," Brenfleck stated. "Having played for Coach Crawley and Coach Ready, and having my younger brother spend four years at HPU, I know firsthand the culture, values, and commitment to excellence that define High Point Lacrosse. I'm passionate about this program and grateful for the opportunity to give back to a university that has had such a meaningful impact on me. I'm looking forward to working alongside an incredible coaching staff and a group of hardworking student-athletes, including several teammates I had the privilege of playing with. I'm excited to help continue building on the success of this special program."

The Panthers will begin the 2026-27 academic year in mid-august.
