BLACKSBURG, Va./ Winston-Salem, N.C. – The High Point University men's track and field team turned in another outing at the Doc Hale Invitational and the Camel City Invite, stacking competitive marks across all events to keep on building upon their impressive indoor season.
The highlight of the meet came in the pole vault, where Ricardo Montes de Oca once again elevated the program standard, this time clearing 5.68 meters to break his own school record and Big South record to place in second place at the meet. Along with Montes de Oca, Jason Olivera Jr. and Grant Gogel each recorded personal bests in the men's pole vault. Olivera Jr. cleared 5.43m and Gogel cleared 5.33m.
On the track, Tim Brown delivered a commanding performance in the 400m, wining the event with a season-best time of 47.63. In the sprints Keshon Sapp earned third-place in the 200m, while Dominiq Northington put together a busy and productive meet. Northington placed fourth in the 60m hurdles prelims before finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 8.11. He later added a fifth-place finish in the 60m dash to round out his efforts. In the 60m prelims he clocked a personal best, 6.87 time.
In the jumps, Mobu Nwakor placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.65m. The high jump saw Shaun Thomas and Alex Constantinou both clearing 2.01m, tying for fourth and adding depth to the Panthers' vertical jumps group.
Across both days at the Doc Hale Invite, the heptathlon took place as HPU had two athletes compete in the events including Cole Wilson and Nigel Steenwinkel. Wilson won the event and recorded 5,695 points after winning the shot put (15.11m), 60m hurdles (8.17), pole vault (4.55m) and the 1000m (2:43.87). Steenwinkel placed second in the pole vault (4.55m) and the 1000m (2:51.09).
At the Camel City Invite, HPU's throwers competed in the shot put and weight throw. Bradley Weiner placed seventh in the weight throw after throwing 15.88m while Caleb Barley placed third in the shot put with a 17.05m throw.
A couple of distance runners also competed at the Camel City Invite. Clark Lalomia raced in the 3000m and placed third with an 8:26.66 time.
High Point now shifts its focus to Clemson University, where the Panthers will compete next at the Tiger Paw Invitational and the Asics Sound Running Invite during the weekend of February 13-14. With multiple breakthrough marks and consistent production across event groups, HPU enters the next meet with confidence and momentum as the indoor season continues to build.
