CLEMSON, S.C. / WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The High Point University men's track and field team traveled to Winston-Salem this weekend for another meet at the JDL Fast Track while a select group of athletes went to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational.
Kicking off the day in the field events,
Caleb Barley won the men's shot put with a 16.83 meter launch. In the men's weight throw
Bradley Weiner had the highest placement with a second place finish on a 15.92m throw. Barley and
Prince Brockington also placed in the top 10.
In the men's pole vault
Grant Gogel won the event with a 5.00m clear. Adding to a first-place title was
John Connors in the men's high jump after clearing 1.97m.
On the track,
Nigel Steenwinkel,
Cole Wilson and
Ethan Stallone started the morning off in the men's 60m hurdles. All three advanced to the finals as Steenwinkel placed second with an 8.37 time, Wilson placed fourth with an 8.55 time and Stallone placed sixth with an 8.60 time.
In the men's 60m dash,
Keshon Sapp qualified for the finals and clocked a 7.08 time. A few events later, he competed in the men's 200m and placed second with a 21.59 time.
Allon Suggs Sweeney registered a new personal best in the men's 400m with a 50.04 time for third place. In the next men's event on the track,
Greg Abel also recorded a new personal best in the men's 800m with a 1:58.69 time for 10th place. In the men's 800m seeded race,
AJ Miller posted a new personal best with a 1:50.61 time for second place.
Moving to the distance events, Clark Lalomia and
Avery Crowell showed strong finishes in the men's mile each registering new personal bests. Lalomia placed second with a 4:11.24 time and Crowell crossed right behind in third place with a 4:11.81 time.
At the Tiger Paw Invitational,
Justin Sluijter competed on Friday in the men's long jump. He placed fifth with a 7.63m mark in the sand.
Shaun Thomas and
Alex Constantinou represented HPU in the men's high jump. Thomas cleared 2.04m and placed in the top 15.
