PHILADELPHIA, Pa. / CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The High Point University men's track and field team split up and competed at two meets over the past three days. A select group of athletes opened the weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while another group of athletes competed at the Charlotte Invitational, as both meets began on Friday.
At the Penn Relays, the Panthers had a strong presence in representing HPU. The men's 4x400m relay team placed first overall in the prelims and qualified for the finals on Saturday evening. The group consisted of
Marquis Belle,
Camerin Williams,
Aidan Britt and
Tim Brown. In the finals, High Point took home first place after cruising into the finish line by a land slide with a 3:07.89 time.
Adding to the first-place medals,
Justin Sluijter secured his third, first-place title in the men's long jump after jumping 7.58m.
In the men's high jump, two athletes represented HPU.
Alex Constantinou placed fifth overall clearing 2.10m and
Shaun Thomas placed ninth clearing 2.00m.
At the Charlotte Invitational,
Alex Hoffman and
Bradley Weiner placed in the top five in the men's hammer. Hoffman threw 57.88m for second place and Weiner threw 49.48m for fourth place. Hoffman also competed in the men's shot put and threw 15.79m for eighth place.
In the men's javelin throw,
Drew Noblet had a good day on Saturday and threw 60.05m for second place overall.
In the running events on the track,
Evan Mills was the lone Panther to race in the men's 3000m steeplechase on Friday night and clocked anew personal best 9:25.65 time.
Also clocking a new personal best,
AJ Miller raced in the men's 800m and placed fourth with a 1:53.83 time to round out the meet at the Charlotte Invitational.

High Point will next compete at the Aggie Classic hosted by NC A&T and the Duke Twilight meet at Duke University. The Aggie Classic will go from May 2-3 while the Duke Twilight is a solo meet on May 4.
