ASUZA, Calif. / Durham, N.C. / Hickory, N.C. – The High Point University men's and women's track and field teams were spread from the east coast to the west coast over the last three days. The Panthers competed at the Bryan Clay Combined Events, the Duke Invitational and the Southside Power Invite.
 
Bryan Clay Combined Events
 
Four athletes from the men's track and field combined events team traveled to the West Coast to compete at the Bryan Clay Combined Events meet. Cole Wilson and Mauricio Galindo Vega represented HPU in Group A of the decathlon while Evan Mills and Felix LeBlanc participated in Group C of the decathlon.
 
Wilson totaled 7,285 points and placed seventh overall. He best events were in the shot put (13.62m), high jump (1.91m), pole vault (4.60m) and the 1500m (4:39.03).
 
In Group A, Galindo Vega had a strong performance across both days. He totaled 7,217 points to place ninth overall. He posted his best events in the shot put (13.90m) and discus (41.43m).
 
Mills totaled 6,703 points and placed third. He posted his best event in the 400m dash, placing first with a 49.42 time. He posted top five finishes in the long jump (6.78m), the 100m dash (11.27), javelin (51.61m) and 1500m (4:43.77).
 
LeBlanc recorded 5,563 points after having strong performances in the shot put and 400m dash.
 
Duke Invitational
 
Various distance athletes, pole vault athletes and throwers competed at the Duke Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Durham, N.C.
 
In the women's distance, Brianna Malone and Charli Montalvo raced in the 5000m and crossed the line at back-to-back times. Malone placed sixth with a 16:37.35 time and Montalvo placed seventh with a 16:43.90 time.
 
Alice Jones was the lone Panther to compete in the 3000m steeplechase and placed 15^th overall with a new personal best 11:08.88 time.
 
In the men's distance events, Graham Ferguson placed fifth in the 800m with a 1:50.68 time. In the men's 5000m race, Gavin Stevens placed 24^th with a 14:33.67 time.
 
In the women's pole vault group A, Rachel Vesper posted her best clearance this season with a 4.02m bar for fifth place. Auriane Viola cleared 3.87m and placed seventh in the event. In the women's pole vault group B, Lily Houston placed fifth clearing 3.85m.
 
As for the men's pole vault groups, Jackson Toumey was the lone HPU athlete to compete, placing third overall after clearing 5.07m in group A.
 
In the women's throwing events, Elise Magaard competed in the shot put and discus. She placed 22^nd in the shot put with an 11.84m throw and 23^rd in the discus with a 38.92m throw.
 
In the men's throwing events, Alex Hoffman had an outstanding day in the hammer throw breaking a program record with a 59.51m throw for ninth place. He also placed 16^th in the shot put with a 15.56m throw. Caleb Barley was the only HPU athlete to compete in the discus and threw 45.98m for 13^th overall.
 
Southside Power Invite
 
A group of throwers competed at the Southside Power Invite. In the men's hammer, two Panthers placed in the top five as Hoffman placed first throwing 55.71m and Bradley Weiner placed fourth throwing 48.06m. Hoffman and Weiner also placed in the top five in the men's discus, as Hoffman threw 47.96m and Weiner threw 43.90m. Barley also placed in the top five with a 45.55m throw.
 
Jill Stroup and Liza Nikitsenka were the only Panthers to compete in the women's hammer and placed second and seventh respectively. Stroup threw 47.35m in her first throw of the day and Nikitsenka threw 38.49m on her second throw.
