Big South Announces 2024-25 Men's Basketball Award Winners

Four Panthers Named to All-Conference Team; Bodo Bodo Named Defensive Player of the Year; Coach Huss Named Coach of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference released the Men's Basketball All-Conference awards for the 2024-25 season. For the second consecutive season, Head Coach Alan Huss was named the Big South Coach of the Year after guiding the Panthers to their second straight outright Big South Regular Season title and a 14-2 league record. Coach Huss becomes the first head coach in program history to be named a two-time Big South Coach of the Year.
 
Along with Coach Huss, Juslin Bodo Bodo was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming the first Panther to win two Defensive Player of the Year awards in program history. Four Panthers were named to the All-Conference first and second teams including, Kezza Giffa, Kimani Hamilton, D'Maurian Williams and Bodo Bodo. The four honorees is the most Big South All-Conference selections HPU has had in program history. Simon Hildebrandt was named to the All-Academic team.
 
Alan Huss – Coach of the Year
In his second season at the helm, Head Coach Alan Huss was named the Big South Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. Huss guided the Panthers to their second consecutive outright Big South Regular Season title for the first-time in Division I program history and was the first team in the Big South since 2011 (Coastal Carolina) to win back-to-back outright titles. HPU finished 26-5 in the regular season with a 14-2 league record. The 26 regular season wins is the most in program history and tied the Big South regular season wins with Coast Carolina's 2010-11 season (26-4). The Panthers also set the best win percentage in Division I era (88% in conference play, 84% regular season). Coach Huss has compiled an overall record of 53-14 and became the fastest coach to 50 wins in Big South history. In two seasons, Huss posted the fastest turnaround in the country after taking over an under .500 program. For 32 weeks, High Point has been ranked in the CollegeInsider.com Mens Mid Major Top 25® for 32 consecutive weeks which is the second most in Big South history. The Panthers as high as No. 8 during the season and currently rank No. 10.

Juslin Bodo Bodo – Defensive Player of the Year / First Team All-Conference
Bodo Bodo was one of two players to start in all 31 games this season for High Point. He led the team on the boards averaging 8.6 per game and ranks No.1 in the country in Kenpom offensive rebound rating (18.3) and No. 7 in defensive rebound rating (29.3). Bodo Bodo ranks No. 22 in NCAA in total rebounds with 266. In 13 games, he totaled 10+ rebounds and registered a career-high 21 rebounds in his best game of his career against UNC Asheville (Feb. 8), which sits third all-time in a single-game in HPU history. In the game against UNC Asheville, Bodo Bodo scored a career-high 19 points which was one of three double-doubles he posted during the season. Following his performance, he was named the Big South Player of the Week (Feb. 10). He finished the season No. 1 in blocked shots on the team with 43 after recording 2+ blocks in 11 games with a season-high four blocks at Presbyterian (Feb.1).
 
Kezza Giffa – First Team All-Conference
Giffa started all 30 games he appeared in this season for the Panthers. He was one of three players to average double figures (14.6 per game) and scored 20+ points in six games with a season-high 24 points versus NCCU (Nov. 12). On February 19, Giffa scored his 1000th career point against Charleston Southern. Throughout the season, he led HPU at the line going 144-of-168, to rank No. 1 in Big South with an 85.7%. He had eight perfect games at the line (min. 4 attempts), including a season-high 9-for-9 on the road at Charleston Southern (Jan. 8). He finished second on the team in assists with 75 and added 75 rebounds to average 2.5 per game. During the season, he was named the Big South Player of the Week on February 24 and was named to the Cayman Islands Classic All-Tournament team in November. Prior to the season, Giffa was named a Bracketeer Preseason Second Team All-American.
 
Kimani Hamilton – First Team All-Conference
Hamilton was one of two players to start all 31 games during the season and was one of three Panthers to average double figures (13.3ppg). He led the team in field goals made with 147 on 53.1% shooting and scored double figures in 26 games including a season-high 26 points versus Presbyterian (Jan. 18). He registered one double-double versus Norfolk State with a career-high 15 rebounds and 18 points. Hamilton was second on the team in rebounding totaling 147 to average 4.7 per game. At the line he shot 73.3% going 107-for-146 on the season, with a season-high 11-for-16 against North Texas (Dec. 6). He picked up 2+ steals in seven games with a career-high four steals versus Radford (Jan. 2). Prior to the season, Hamilton was named a Bracketeer Preseason 1st Team All-American.
 
D'Maurian Williams – Second Team All-Conference
After transferring back to the Big South from Texas Tech, Williams became one of High Point's consistent offensive leaders. He started all 28 games he appeared in this season and was one of three Panthers to average double figures (14.5ppg). He reached double figures in 21 games and dropped 20+ points in six games. He scored a season-high 24 points at Southern Illinois (Dec. 21) and splashed in a career-high six threes at USC Upstate (Jan. 22). He finished second on the team in three-pointers made with 41. Adding to his stats, he finished the season totaling 67 assists, with a career-high eight assists versus Jackson State (Nov. 9), 22 steals and three blocks.

High Point prepares for the Big South Tournament this week and awaits to play the winner of the 8/9 seed on Friday, March 7 at 12:00 p.m. at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tenn.
