HIGH POINT, N.C. - High Point University women's basketball capped a dominant non-conference stretch with an 11-2 record, the best start in the program's Division I era. Behind one of the nation's most efficient offenses averaging 77.2 points per game while holding opponents to 62.2 points.
HPU's fast start has been powered by the electric duo of
Aaliyah Collins and
Macy Spencer, causing trouble for opposing teams night after night. Collins has been a force on both ends of the court, averaging 17.0 points with disruptive defensive play. Spencer has matched her scoring pace at 17.6 points per game, leading the team in perimeter shooting and delivering big-time buckets throughout the first half of action.
The Panthers' success has been fueled by contributions from across the roster.
Nevaeh Zavala has added 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game on over 51 percent shooting, while
Brecken Snotherly's electric energy inside has contributed 5.7 points and 4.3 rebounds. Anna Hager and
Chana Paxixe have provided strength on the glass as Hager averages a team-best 5.3 boards while Paxixe follows with 5.0 per game.
High Point's ability to win in different environments in the Qubein Center, on the road, and against tournament-level opponents has helped the Panthers earn national attention and a place among the top mid-major women's programs.
The Panthers now shift to Big South Conference action looking to repeat as champions in back-to-back seasons. HPU opens conference play with a home matchup against UNC Asheville who head into the Qubein Center with a 5-8 overall record after completing it's non-conference slate.
