CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Big South Conference announced the first men's basketball Player of the Week awards on Monday afternoon following the opening week of college hoops. High Point University forward,
Cam'Ron Fletcher was named the Player of the Week, earning the first conference player of the week award of his career.
The 6'7" graduate student led the team in scoring and rebounding across both games last week, helping the Panthers pick up two victories over Furman University and Averett University. He averaged 18.0 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game after posting a double-double on opening night at the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon with 11 points and 10 rebounds, before recording a new career-high with 25 points against Averett and one rebound shy from another double-double performance. Across both games, he shot 65.2% from the field and 67% from the line. In Saturday nights game, he threw down a dunk that erupted the entire arena in disbelief. Teammate
Rob Martin took off on a left-handed drive and lobbed up a no look backwards pass for Fletcher to catch one-handed and slam down, giving the audience a Harlem Globetrotters type entertainment. Around the rim, Fletcher collected 19 total rebounds with eight of the 19 being offensive rebounds to give HPU second chance opportunities. Adding to his stats for the week, he handed out three assists and registered three blocks.
High Point returns to action on Tuesday, November 11 at the Qubein Center for a matchup against Jacksonville University at 7:00 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the teams since December of 2000.
