HIGH POINT, N.C. – Two seniors from the High Point men's lacrosse team got picked up by the PLL on Thursday, May 9.
Brayden Mayea was picked up by the Carolina Chaos while
Jack VanOverbeke was picked up by the Utah Archers.
Mayea joins former teammate Kevin Rogers (2021) on the Chaos. Rogers was picked up by the Chrome (now the Denver Outlaws) in 2021 before recently playing the 2023 season with the California Redwoods alongside former Panther Tim Troutner. VanOverbeke becomes the first HPU player to get signed to the Archers as both Mayea and VanOverbeke join former Panthers and teammates,
Asher Nolting,
Tim Troutner, and
Kevin Rogers in the league.

Mayea had another record-breaking year during the 2024 season. Starting 15 games, he led the team in four different statistical categories. He finished the season with program single season record 46 goals to lead the league. He ranked sixth among all NCAA Division I players in goals per game averaging 3.07 after recording a hat trick or more in eight of the 15 games. Mayea has also led the team in points (67), shots (111) and shots on goal (70). He posted a .415 shot percentage and .631 shot on goal percentage. Adding to his stats, Mayea finished third on the team in ground balls with 45 and had four caused turnovers. He has broken three program records this season, becoming the all-time leader in career goals with 168 and set two single-game records versus VMI after scoring a career-high eight goals and 11 points. Mayea was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List (Mar. 7) and an Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American. He was named an Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions and named to the USILA/Blatant Lacrosse Team of the Week on February 20.
Mayea graduates from High Point leaving an outstanding legacy, joining many former Panthers in the PLL. Over the course of his four years, he was named a two-time Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection, a three-time SoCon Player of the Week and three-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, a three-time All-Conference player, a SoCon All-Freshman Team recipient and an Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference selection. Mayea was also named an Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American and to the USILA/Blatant Lacrosse Team of the Week. His name now sits at the top of the record book in single-game goals (8), single-game points (11), single-game man-up goals (3), single-season goals (46), single-season game winning goals (5), career goals (168), and career game winning goals (11). He sits in the top-5 in the record book in six other statistical categories, ranking 4th in single-season points (67), 3rd in career shots (367), career shot percentage (.458), and career shots on goal (.668), and 2nd in career points (220) and career man-up goals (18).
VanOverbeke closed out his senior season starting in 14 games for the Panthers. He totaled 24 goals and 41 assists for 65 points, finishing first on the team in assists and second on the team in goals and points. He led the Atlantic 10 in assists per game with 2.93 (ranking 8
th nationally) and points per game averaging 4.73 (ranking 12
th nationally). He scored a career-high five goals in two games versus VMI (Feb. 16) and at Syracuse (Mar. 2) and had a season-high five assists at Hampton (Mar. 12). He finished the season with a .536 shot on goal percentage and picked up 24 ground balls with four caused turnovers.
Over VanOverbeke's four seasons with the purple and white, he appeared in 60 games with 46 starts on the attack. He scored 89 goals and dished out 95 assists totaling 184 points. He also picked up 70 ground balls and had 10 caused turnovers. In the record book he ranks third all-time in career assists (95), fourth in career points (184) and is tied for second in single-game points (10) and assists (6) with Asher Nolting. VanOverbeke graduated from HPU on May 4
th with a degree in Finance.
The 2024 PLL season begins June 1
st-2
nd in Albany, New York, as the Archers are set to faceoff with the Waterdogs on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on ABC/ESPN+ and the Chaos are set to matchup with the Outlaws on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
