NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 conference announced its second ever men's lacrosse all-conference teams Wednesday afternoon (May 1st) ahead of the tournament semifinal contests. Seven Panthers made the All-Conference and All-Rookie selections as
Brayden Mayea made his fourth appearance to an All-Conference team over the course of his four seasons at High Point.
Brayden Mayea | Sr. | Attackmen | Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference
The Canadian had another record-breaking year during the 2024 season. Starting 14 games, he led the team in four different statistical categories. He finished the regular season with 44 goals to lead the league and is one goal shy of breaking the programs single season record which he set himself in 2023 with 45 goals. He currently ranks sixth among all NCAA Division I players in goals per game averaging 3.14 after recording a hat trick or more in eight of the 15 games. Mayea has also led the team in points (64), shots (106) and shots on goal (68). He posted a .415 shot percentage and .642 shot on goal percentage. Adding to his stats, Mayea is third on the team in ground balls with 45 and has four caused turnovers. He has broken three program records this season, becoming the All-Time leader in career goals with 160 and set two single-game records versus VMI after scoring a career-high eight goals and 11 points. Mayea was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List and an Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American. He was named an Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions and named to the USILA/Blatant Lacrosse Team of the Week on February 20.
Nick Rizzo | Sr. | Midfielder | Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference
The preseason All-Conference favorite was named to the First Team All-Conference selection following the completion of the 2024 regular season. Rizzo started all 15 games for the purple and white and finished third on the team in goals with 19. He added 15 assists to record 34 points. He posted multi-goal games in five contests and registered a career-high four goals versus Queens. Over the course of the season, he took 50 shots for a .380 shot percentage and 34 shots on goal for a .680 shot percentage. The midfielder also collected 15 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Zack Brenfleck | Jr. | Defender | Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference
Started 14 games this season for the Panthers on defense. The junior played a significant role on the back line for High Point's defensive crew and picked up 24 ground balls with 14 caused turnovers. He collected a season-high three ground balls versus Hobart and a season-high three caused turnovers versus Mercer in the season-opener.
Tommy Meehan | R-Jr. | Midfielder | Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference
Started 14 games this season for HPU in the midfield. Finished the regular season with 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points. He recorded 27 shots on goal for a .458 shot percentage. Scored a season-high three goals on two occasions, first against Cleveland State and the second time at Hampton. Also recorded a season-high two assists versus St. Bonaventure. The midfielder recorded three ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Corey O'Connor | Fr. | Defender | Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference & All-Rookie Team
The only player to earn two postseason awards, O'Connor played a big role for the Panthers on defense. He recorded 15 ground balls and four caused turnovers. He picked up multi-ground balls in three games and posted one goal in the game versus Jacksonville.
Jack VanOverbeke | Sr. | Attackmen | Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference
The senior attackmen started 13 games this season for the Panthers. As an assist specialist, he led the team and the league in assists with 44 and currently ranks seventh in NCAA in assists per game with 3.00. He ranks second on the team in goals (24) and points (62), recording his second consecutive season with 60+ points. Against VMI he posted his first career-high of the season with five goals and four assists before scoring five goals and three assists at Syracuse. He later recorded five assists at Hampton for a season best. He finished the season with a .552 shot on goal percentage after taking 48 shots on target. Adding to his stats, he picked up 24 ground balls and forced three turnovers.
Ian Cann | Fr. | Midfielder | Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team
Cann was named the Panthers lone Rookie of the Week on March 25 after helping HPU to a 12-11 upset over No.15 UNC. In his freshman season, he appeared in 14 games and collected seven goals with one assist for eight points. He posted a season-high two goals versus UNC and Hobart and registered his solo assist against UMass. He added 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers with three multi-ground ball games.
