High Point-Harvard Compete in First-Ever Matchup

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Reese Dowgiallo netted her third multi-score game this season as the High Point University women's lacrosse team fell to No. 22 Harvard University, 22-5, in the team's first-ever matchup Saturday afternoon.

SITE: Vert Stadium
SCORE: High Point 5, #22 Harvard 22
RECORDS: High Point (4-3), Harvard (5-1)

Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "Today was a rough one. Harvard came to play, and we didn't. Some early breaks in the game set the tone for us and we just couldn't recover from it. We will learn and move on quickly."

The nation's third-best scoring offense opened the game on a 6-0 run that was aided by an early non-releasable penalty to give the Crimson man-up opportunities.

Allie Connally was the first Panther to score, netting her fifth goal over the past three games to stop the run and make it 6-1. Dowgiallo scored in consecutive games for the second time this season with two second-quarter goals to make it 13-3 at half. Esprit Cha assisted Connally's goal, and then Shannon Smith dished out her fifth assist to Dowgiallo on the first score.

HPU scored a pair of goals in the second half as Jordan Miles extended her scoring streak to seven games and Esprit Cha scored in back-to-back games. Mackie Scheib registered her second assist on Cha's goal.

The Panthers held the advantage in draw controls, winning 17 to the Crimson's 12, and were led by Miles' six while Pia Cavallaro had five and Kay Rosselli had four. Dowgiallo had a career-high three ground balls and Cha added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Joy Coffey and Ava Welsh split time in goal as Coffey had six saves and Welsh had three.

Up Next: The Panthers have the week off before traveling to Coastal Carolina for their final non-conference matchup Saturday, March 23 at 12 p.m.
