CONWAY, S.C. — In the final non-conference matchup of the season, the High Point University women's lacrosse team had three players net hat tricks as the Chants edged the Panthers Saturday afternoon, 17-12.
SITE: Brooks Stadium
SCORE: High Point 12, Coastal Carolina 17
RECORDS: High Point (4-4), Coastal (5-4)
Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "We didn't put 60 minutes together today and the result shows. We showed some amazing but sporadic moments, and the fight came a little too late. Credit to Coastal — they played a complete game. I'm excited about what we learned about our team in the non-conference portion of our schedule, and I think the level of teams we played should put us in a good place as we get started with Big South play next weekend."
The Panthers had five different players score to give them a 6-2 advantage as the 13-minute mark in the second quarter approached. Of those were
Esprit Cha,
Reese Dowgiallo,
Kay Rosselli,
Allie Connally and
Jordan Miles who contributed to a hot start.
Coastal Carolina responded with a 12-1 run that carried into the third quarter to take the lead. In the fourth quarter, the trio of Rosselli, Connally and Miles combined for a 5-0 run, cutting the deficit to two goals which earned them hat tricks in the process.
Unfortunately, the late surge wasn't enough as the Chants responded with three goals to shut down the Panthers' comeback attempt.
On top of Connally's three goals, the sophomore also registered two assists for a single-game career-high five points. Miles extended her scoring streak to eight games — scoring three of more goals in six of those — while Rosselli notched her second hat trick this season.
Esprit Cha also added a pair of goals.
Up Next: The Panthers welcome Mercer to Vert Stadium to open Big South play on Saturday, March 30 at 12 p.m. It will be the team's Morgan's Message Dedication game.
