Brianna Malone and
Alyssa Hendrix also made vital contributions, finishing in the top 20.
Earlier this season, High Point made the trip to Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Run, where it excelled by finishing ninth out of 44 teams, competing against several Power 5 schools, including Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers, Maryland, and Miami. Montalvo led the Panthers as their top finisher, closely followed by
Brianna Malone and
Alyssa Hendrix. Additionally,
Danielle Jensen made her season debut with a standout performance, contributing to the team's strong showing.
In their second race of the season, the Panthers competed at the Adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State, finishing fifth in a highly competitive field. Hendrix led the team, followed closely by Montalvo and Malone. They showcased their strong performance against tough competition.
At the season opener, the Panthers secured seventh place at the Covered Bridge Open, hosted by App State.
Reese Bradbury made a remarkable debut, being the first Panther to cross the finish line. She was closely followed by junior
Mikayla Moxley and senior
Nikki Frail, contributing to a solid start to the season.
Montalvo has been High Point's top finisher in the last three meets, consistently improving with each race. Her outstanding performances at the Panorama Farms Invitational and the Paul Short Run earned her Big South Runner of the Week twice this season.
Graduate student Hendrix has significantly impacted the team in just one season. She consistently finishes in the top three for the Panthers in every meet this season. After her debut, she earned Big South Runner of the Week honors and placed in the top 15 at the Adidas XC Challenge.
Malone has had a remarkably consistent season, consistently staying with the lead group and finishing as the second or third Panther in all her races. As the 2023 Individual Big South Champion and Freshman of the Year, she is poised to defend her title and play a crucial role in helping the team secure yet another Big South Championship.
