FARMVILLE, VA. — The High Point University women's cross country team is your 2025 Big South Conference Champions. This is the Panthers' ninth-straight conference championship, dating back to the 2017 season, which is a conference record.
High Point finished with 20 points, while the next closest team, UNC-Asheville, recorded 62 points. According to the conference, the 20-point total is the third-best team score in championship history. Head Coach Remy Tamer was named the Big South Conference Coach of the Year for a sixth time.
"You never over-look a win and you should always celebrate them and take time to dance with them as they arrive. So we are doing that and I feel good about that, of course," Coach Tamer said. "There is plenty to work on and I think we as a team and an organization, we saw some weak spots that we know we can improve on and we can execute a little bit better. I believe in two weeks when we have the NCAA regionals we are going to have to be a little bit tighter. We are going to have to run a tighter ship. Today was a great opportunity to race for a championship, to race for trophies, to race with consequences. So I feel good that we came out victorious and I also feel a feeling of promise that our women are going to be the ones that step up and really show that where we are heading is in the right direction."
The Panthers had five runners place inside the top 10. Junior Brianna Malone won her third-straight individual conference championship after coming in first place with a time of 16:59.5 in the 5k. Malone was out the gate quick and did not let up the entire way. Danielle Jensen came in second with a time of 17:23.3 she stayed right behind Malone until the very end. The sophomore made a four-spot jump after placing sixth in the conference championship last season and set a personal record time.
Graduate student Alyssa Hendrix clocked in with a time of 17:38.6, and right behind her was Charli Montalvo, who ran a 17:45.8. Hendrix placed fourth for the second consecutive year. Big South Freshman of the Year recipient Olivia Purdy ran a time of 18:10.3 and placed eighth. With Purdy being named the best freshman in the conference, the Panthers have now brought home the award four times this decade.
The first seven runners to finish were named first-team all-conference runners, while the next seven were second-team. This means Malone, Jesnsen, Hendrix, and Montalvo were named to the first team, while Purdy is a second-team all-conference runner in just her first season.
Freshman Charlotte Heaton came in 21st place with an 18:38.6 finish. In 36th place was Evie Wild, who ran a time of 19:17.0. Just over a second behind her in 38th place was senior Mikayla Moxley, who ran a 19:18.2 time. Senior Lauren Vossen clocked in with a 61st-place finish and a 20:19.5 time.
