BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. –

Score: High Point 74, Gardner-Webb 64
Records: High Point (6-9, 1-1), Gardner-Webb (1-13, 0-1)

Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "Obviously, I am happy we were able to get away with the win here. I still think we had too many breakdowns defensively, giving shooters threes at the other of the floor and a lot of missed opportunities. We came together, we were able to get the win. Lauren was huge, she was very good tonight and that is the most efficient she has been. Happy to see that from her coming back here. First win in conference and hopefully we get it going from here."

Lauren Bevis started the scoring for the Panthers, and she never looked back. Bevis finished just three points shy of her career high in points (35). She drained six three pointers and went 2-2 from the free throw line.

The first 10 minutes of play was back and forth between the Panthers and the Runnin' Bulldogs. High Point finished the first quarter up 16-15.

The second quarter stayed pretty much the same. Down one, late in the second quarter,
Callie Scheier drained a floater from deep to give HPU the 29-26 lead.

Gardner-Webb fought their way back as they headed to the locker room up 33-31.

A slow start to the third quarter for HPU was suddenly lifted as Bevis intercepted the ball and drove down the court to lay one up to get back on the board in the second half.

It didn't take long until she really started to heat up as she started to drain threes. High Point was up two with five seconds left in the third quarter. Bevis took control of a loose ball and let it fly and nailed a buzzer beater from beyond the arc to extend the teams lead to five as they headed to the final quarter.

High Point went on an 8-1 run to start the fourth quarter to push them further ahead of the Bulldogs.

Gardner-Webb slowly started to show some promise in the fourth quarter but was suddenly shut down as HPU kept making buckets.
Nakyah Terrell,
Shakira Baskerville, and Bevis all had a part in the team's 22-point fourth quarter.

Bevis was the first Big South player to score 30+ points in a game this year as HPU came away with their first conference win.

Up Next: High Point will stay on the road to face UNC Asheville on Wednesday, Jan 10. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m.
