Alan Huss has been named a 'mid-season' recipient for the 2024 Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year award.

"It's been impressive to watch how Coach Huss has changed the mindset of the program since arriving last March. He has put together an elite roster, which will challenge for High Point's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament."
The Joe B. Hall award is presented annually to the top first-year head coach in Division I college basketball. The award will be announced and presented to the final winner in Phoenix, Arizona at the site of the Men's Division I NCAA National Championship.
Since taking over in March of 2023, coach Huss has already guided the program to multiple milestones. Finishing up the non-conference schedule, the Panthers currently hold a record of 11-4 which is the best non-conference record in program history. High Point boasts an 8-0 record inside the Qubein Center which is the first undefeated home non-conference season in program history since becoming Division I in 1999.
In the Panthers home opener, the team earned Coach Huss' first win and did it in record breaking fashion. As a team, HPU knocked down 21 three-pointers, breaking the previous single-game three-point record of 15 which was set in 2007, 2011 and 2012. High Point also tied a program record, 61 rebounds in the 105-51 win over St. Andrews.
Ranking 18th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 85.5 points per game, High Point recorded the second most points scored in a single game in program history with the 122-73 win over Mount Olive.
High Point finished as the runner-up at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida after coming up short in overtime against Hofstra University, 97-92.
High Point is ranked No. 19 in the latest Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
Entering the Big South conference season, HPU was predicted seventh overall in the preseason polls and currently sits at second in the league. The Panthers will compete in 16 conference contests before hosting the 2024 Hercules Tires Big South Men's & Women's Basketball Championships in High Point, N.C.
