"Very proud of how our team responded after a poor first round. Gregor played a very solid complete tournament, and Grady had some stretches of play. We were one putt away from counting four scores at par or better, which will be a momentum builder for us going forward."
Meyer was the only Panther under par in round one. After playing his first 11 holes at one over par, Meyer birdied four of his final seven holes to finish round one in a tie for 13
th at three under par.
The redshirt junior carried his round one momentum into round two, carding three birdies and two bogeys for a 1-under-par round of 70. After two days, Meyer was at four under par and remained tied for 13
th. After shooting eight over par as a team in round one, the Panthers shot a 1-over-par 285 on day two. Newton carded a team-high eight birdies in round two. But two bogeys, one double bogey, one triple bogey brought him to a one-under-par 70 for the round.
Alan Smith shot even par on day two as the Panthers leaped up three spots on the leaderboard heading into the final day.
The Panthers would move up three more spots on the leaderboard on the final day. As a team, High Point shot a 2-under-par 282 as a team on day three. Newton led the charge, making six straight birdies on holes 10-15, to led him to a 2-under-par round of 69.
Smith started his final round strong with two birdies on the first four holes, which led to a 1-under-par round of 70. Freshman
Burch Harrison had his best round of the week on day three, shooting an even-par 71. Meyer would shoot a 1-over-par 72 in his final 18 holes to preserve his team-best finish of three under par for the tournament.
Collectively, High Point shot a 6-over-par 858, which made them one of 11 teams in the field to break the previous tournament 54-hole scoring record of 866 set by Wright State last season.
