Dade City, FL - Men's golf completed its first event of the spring., finishing fourth at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play tournament. The Panthers as a team finished 1-0-2. High Point entered as the number four seed, defeating no. 5 Eastern Michigan in round one. The Panthers would tie with no. 1 Ball State in round two and tie no. 6 Loyola in round three. High Point would lose the third place tie-breaking match to finish fourth.
Todd Eckstein on the team's performance:
"Overall, I'm pleased with our first performance of the spring. Despite losing the tiebreakers in our final two matches, we were focused and confident throughout the tournament. We are much improved from where we left off in the fall and I'm looking forward to seeing that improvement show this spring."
Burch Harrison led the way for the Panthers, taking home wins in all three rounds. His best was a 3-up finish in round one.
Kyle Nordheimer also had a 3-up finish coming in the second round. Nordheimer was down one hole in round three, needing a win at the last to prevent a round three team loss. He would win the final hole of the day to tie the match and give the team a tie against Loyola.
